Starting thread: Where to learn shibari in Berlin

I've recently moved to Berlin and want to learn shibari properly. I'm a complete beginner with no prior experience in rope bondage, and I'd appreciate any recommendations for workshops or classes in the city. What should I look for in an instructor? Are there specific studios or regular events that are beginner-friendly? I'm also curious about the typical class structure and whether people usually come alone or with a partner. Any advice on how to get started safely would be great.

Berlin has a pretty active shibari community. I'd recommend starting with beginner workshops that focus on safety and basic ties. Look for instructors who emphasize consent and body awareness. Most workshops welcome singles and couples. The scene here is really welcoming to newcomers in BDSM overall.

When choosing a shibari instructor make sure they have solid experience and can teach proper rope handling. You want someone who spends time on safety fundamentals not just fancy ties. Check if they cover topics like nerve damage prevention and safe suspension points if that's something you're interested in later.

I went to my first rope bondage workshop last year as a complete beginner and it was amazing. The instructor walked us through everything step by step. Don't worry about coming alone, there were several people without partners and we rotated practice partners throughout the session.

Thanks everyone! This is really helpful. How long does it typically take to get comfortable with basic shibari techniques? And are there practice sessions outside of formal classes?

It depends on how much you practice but basic bondage ties can be learned in a few sessions. The real skill comes with lots of practice. Some studios host rope jams where people meet to practice together in a safe space. Those are great for beginners because you can ask questions and learn from others.

Been doing rope for about three years now. My advice is focus on single column ties and body harnesses first before moving to anything suspension related. Shibari is beautiful but safety is everything in BDSM. Take your time learning and don't rush into advanced stuff. DM me if you want specific recommendations for Berlin instructors.

Are the workshops expensive? I'm also interested in learning rope bondage but on a student budget.

Prices vary but most beginner shibari workshops are pretty reasonable. Some community spaces offer donation-based sessions too. The investment is worth it for proper instruction especially when it comes to safety in rope play. Message me privately if you want info about affordable options.
