Starting thread: Rope community in LA

I've been practicing shibari for a while now and want to connect with the rope community here in Los Angeles. I'm looking for information about local practice groups, workshops, or regular meetups where people interested in rope bondage gather. What's the scene like here? Are there beginner-friendly spaces, and what should newcomers expect in terms of atmosphere and skill levels? I'd really value hearing from anyone who's already involved in the LA rope community about how you got started and where you've found welcoming places to learn and practice.

If you're part of the local scene or know good ways to get connected, I'd appreciate any insights you can share.

LA has a pretty active rope scene actually. There are regular practice groups that meet in various studios around the area. Most focus on shibari and western bondage techniques. The beginner groups tend to be super welcoming and focus heavily on safety and consent. When you show up, expect a mix of skill levels but everyone's usually pretty helpful. I started going to open rope jams about two years ago and that's how I met most of my practice partners. DM me if you want specific recommendations on which groups might be a good fit.

Welcome to the scene! The BDSM community in LA is pretty tight-knit once you get involved. For rope specifically, look for monthly rope socials where people just hang out and tie. They're low-pressure and great for networking. Just remember to always communicate boundaries clearly and never tie alone when you're starting out.

I'm also new to rope bondage and would love to know more about beginner workshops in the area. Is there usually a cost for attending practice groups or are some free?

Most practice spaces charge a small venue fee to cover the studio rental. Workshops with instructors teaching shibari techniques obviously cost more but are worth it for learning proper safety. The open jams are usually the cheapest way to get practice time and meet people into rope.
