Starting thread: New bondage model looking for photographer

I'm just starting out as a bondage model and want to build a portfolio with the right photographer. For those with experience in this scene, what should I look for when vetting someone? I'm especially curious about discussing boundaries before a session, understanding their background with rope work or shibari, and how to handle image rights. Safety and professionalism are my top priorities as I enter this space. What questions do you wish you'd asked early on? Any warning signs or positive indicators that helped you identify photographers worth working with?

Always ask to see their previous bondage work first. Check if they actually understand rope safety or if they just want to take pictures. A good photographer in this scene knows about nerve points and circulation. Also discuss who owns the images upfront and get it in writing.

I've been modeling for shibari photographers for three years now. Red flags: anyone who rushes you, doesn't want to discuss limits, or can't show references from other models. Green flags: they have a detailed questionnaire about your experience level, medical conditions, and boundaries. They should know basic rope safety even if they're not the rigger themselves.

DM me if you want to chat more about the screening process.

From the photographer side - I always meet models for coffee first before any BDSM session. We talk through everything, I show my portfolio, and explain my working process. Any legit photographer should be willing to do this. If someone wants to jump straight into a rope bondage shoot without that conversation, run.

What's your location? Some cities have regular rope bondage meetups where you can network with photographers and riggers in person. Much safer than cold calling strangers online.

Thanks everyone. This is super helpful. I'm in the midwest, so I'll look into local BDSM community events to start networking.

Also make sure you have someone you trust as an emergency contact who knows where you are during shoots. Basic safety for any bondage work but especially important when you're new to working with someone.

Look for photographers who've worked with experienced riggers or who've taken shibari safety courses themselves. The best ones understand the art form beyond just the visuals. Message me privately if you need specific questions to ask during vetting - I can share a checklist we use.
