Starting thread: Beginner rope model searching for first paid shoot

I've been doing unpaid practice sessions for a few months now and I think I'm ready to start getting paid for rope modeling work. I'm comfortable with basic shibari ties and floor work, but I'm not sure where to find legitimate opportunities or what rates I should be asking for. Also worried about safety and vetting people properly. Any advice from experienced bondage models or riggers would be really appreciated.

Always ask for references from other models they've worked with. That's the number one thing. Any legit rigger in the BDSM community will have people who can vouch for them. Don't work with anyone who refuses to provide contacts.

For rates, beginners usually start around 75-125 per hour depending on location and what's involved. Never work for free once you're past the practice stage.

I'm in the same boat as you Jordan. How do you even find rope photographers or riggers who are hiring? Is there like a specific community or platform for this?

Most cities have local BDSM munches or rope practice groups. That's where you meet people and build connections. Word of mouth is huge in bondage work. Go to events, watch sessions, talk to other models.

Just be clear about your experience level and boundaries from the start.

DM me if you want to talk more about the business side. I've been modeling for rope work for three years now.

One thing - always have a safety call set up. Someone who knows where you are and will check in at a specific time during any new shibari session. Non-negotiable.

Thanks everyone. The references thing makes total sense. Should I be asking to see their portfolio too? And what about contracts or model releases?

Re shibari - what kind of meetups work best?

Definitely look at their work beforehand. You want to see if their rope style matches what you're comfortable with. Some riggers do really intense suspension bondage, others focus on artistic floor ties.

Always get a model release that specifies exactly where images can be used. Message me privately if you need a template.

What red flags should models watch out for? I'm trying to understand this from both sides since I'm learning rigging.

In BDSM terms, how do you negotiate boundaries?

Anyone who pushes past stated boundaries. Anyone who doesn't have safety shears immediately accessible during rope work. Anyone who gets defensive when you ask about their experience or references.

In BDSM work, your gut feeling matters. If something feels off about a person or situation, trust that instinct and walk away.

Also consider taking a rope bottom workshop if there's one in your area. Learning proper communication during bondage sessions helps a lot. You'll understand what questions to ask riggers and how to articulate your limits clearly.

Got it, thanks all. This is super helpful. Going to start reaching out to local shibari groups this week.
