Suspension is serious business. Make sure whoever you work with has actual suspension experience, not just floor work. Also you need proper rigging points and safety equipment. Have you done suspension bondage before yourself or are you bringing in an experienced rigger?

I'll have an experienced rigger on set. I'm handling the production and direction side. Definitely not trying to learn suspension rigging while filming.

About rope: what beginner mistakes do you see most?

Smart move. For finding models, there are regular rope meetups and workshops in SF where you can network. The community is pretty tight-knit so word of mouth works well. Have you sorted out the legal stuff? Model releases, 2257 compliance if it's adult content, that whole thing? BDSM video work has extra considerations.

I've modeled for rope bondage videos before. Happy to answer questions about the model perspective if that helps. The best shoots I've done had really detailed conversations beforehand about boundaries, aftercare plans, and what would happen with the footage. Also make sure you have safety shears and the rigger knows how to get someone down fast if needed.

That's really helpful. What about aftercare? How long do you usually need after a suspension shibari session?

Aftercare varies person to person but I'd plan for at least 30-45 minutes after intensive rope work. Some people need more. Also consider having blankets, water, and snacks on hand.
