Starting thread: Rope workshops in Paris

I'm looking to get into shibari and wondering if anyone here has experience with rope workshops in Paris. What was the teaching style like? Were they welcoming to complete beginners? I'm particularly interested in how they approached safety and consent practices during the sessions. Also curious about the overall vibe - was it a comfortable learning environment? If you've attended any classes in the city, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

I took a beginner shibari workshop in the 11th arrondissement last year. Very welcoming atmosphere, they spent the first hour just on safety protocols and consent negotiation before anyone even touched rope. The instructor was patient and made sure everyone understood nerve placement and circulation checks. Would definitely recommend for newcomers to bondage.

Which studio was that? I'm also interested in learning proper rope techniques.

DM me and I can share details about the specific place. They run monthly intro sessions.

I've been to a few different workshops around Paris. The BDSM community here is pretty active. One thing I noticed is that some focus more on aesthetic shibari ties while others emphasize the power dynamics and sensation play aspects. Worth asking beforehand what the workshop philosophy is so you find one that matches what you're looking for.

That's a really good point about the different approaches. I think I'm more interested in understanding the fundamentals and safety first before getting into the aesthetic side. Do most workshops provide rope or should I bring my own?

Most beginner bondage workshops provide rope for the class. But if you continue, you'll want to invest in your own. Quality matters a lot - cheap rope can be harsh on skin and harder to work with.

Just want to add that if you're serious about shibari, look for workshops that teach you how to read your partner's body language and do regular check-ins. The technical rope work is important but the communication aspect is what keeps everyone safe in BDSM scenes. Some instructors rush through that part.

Are there workshops specifically for LGBT folks? Asking because I'd feel more comfortable learning bondage techniques in a queer-friendly space.

I know there are some dedicated spaces but not sure about specific workshops. Maybe someone else can chime in?

There are definitely queer-focused rope events in Paris. The BDSM scene here is pretty inclusive overall but I know what you mean about wanting that specific space. Message me privately if you want some recommendations.

This has all been super helpful, appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. Going to start reaching out to some places and hopefully sign up for a beginner session soon.

Good luck! Remember to take it slow and don't feel pressured to progress faster than you're comfortable with. Shibari has a learning curve but it's worth it.
