Starting thread: Rope practice partners in Moscow

I'm living in Moscow and hoping to meet others who are into shibari and want to practice together. I've been working on my rope skills for a bit now, and I think having regular practice partners would really help me improve and stay motivated. I'm interested in exploring different ties, discussing technique, and building skills in an environment where we all prioritize safety and clear communication. If you're somewhere on your own bondage journey, whether just starting out or more experienced, I'd be curious to hear how you've gone about finding practice partners here. The community seems a bit scattered, so any insights on connecting with others locally would be appreciated.

Hey, there are actually a few rope jams happening in the city from time to time. The BDSM community here is definitely scattered like you said, but people do organize practice meetups. Have you checked out any of the local studios that offer space for practice?

I've been learning shibari for about 6 months now. Also looking for practice partners. The main challenge is finding people who take safety seriously and aren't just looking for something else if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the response. I haven't checked out studios yet - wasn't sure if they allow practice sessions or if it's just classes. Do you know which ones are open to that?

Most studios I've seen do have open practice times. Some require you to have taken at least an intro class with them first though. Safety is their main concern obviously since rope bondage can be risky if people don't know what they're doing.

Exactly. And honestly that's a good policy. I've seen too many people jump into suspension or complex ties without understanding the basics. If you're serious about shibari, taking a structured class first is worth it.

I'm interested too. Been practicing for a year, mostly floor work and some basic suspension. Would love to meet other people into rope to exchange techniques. DM me if you want to chat about organizing something.

Question for those with more experience - how do you approach the conversation about boundaries and limits with new practice partners? I'm relatively new to BDSM and the rope side of things, and I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

Good question. Before any session you should have a detailed conversation about hard limits, soft limits, any injuries or health issues, safe words or signals. This isn't optional. Also discuss what you want to practice specifically that session. Keep it clear and documented.

Also super important with bondage - check in regularly during the session. Especially watch for nerve issues, circulation problems, and breathing. Learn the emergency release techniques before you do anything complicated.

All good advice. I always keep safety shears within reach during any rope session. Non-negotiable.

I've been to a couple of rope jams in Moscow. The community is small but welcoming. Usually a mix of experience levels which is nice for learning. People are generally respectful about the fact that this is about the art and skill of shibari, not a hookup scene.

That's reassuring to hear. I was worried about that aspect. Thanks for the info.

In BDSM terms, how do you negotiate boundaries?

If anyone wants to practice together I'm available most weekends. Been doing rope work for about two years, comfortable with most floor ties and working on improving my suspension skills. Message me privately if interested.

Really appreciate all the responses here. Sounds like there's definitely interest in the community for practice partnerships. I'll look into the studios and maybe we can organize something. Feel free to DM me as well if you want to connect.
