Starting thread: Looking for shibari partner for shoots in Chicago

I'm a Chicago-based photographer working on a project that explores shibari as a visual art form. I'm looking to connect with experienced rope artists or models interested in collaborating on photography shoots. Having done some work in this space before, I understand how important trust and clear communication are when it comes to rope bondage photography. I'm hoping to find someone who shares an interest in the aesthetic and artistic aspects of this practice. If you have experience with shibari and think this might be a good fit, I'd love to hear about your background and what interests you about this work. Also open to any advice from others here about how to approach these collaborations thoughtfully.

Make sure you discuss boundaries and safety protocols before any shoot. Rope bondage can be risky if people aren't experienced. Do you have liability insurance for your studio?

Good point Sarah. Yes, I carry insurance and always have a detailed consent form. Safety is absolutely the priority with any BDSM-related work.

I've been doing shibari for about 8 years now. Chicago scene is pretty active. What's your photography style like? Are you going for traditional Japanese aesthetic or more contemporary bondage photography?

I lean more contemporary but with respect for traditional forms. Clean backgrounds, natural light when possible. Really interested in capturing the interplay between rope patterns and body lines. Would love to see some of your work if you want to DM me.

I'm curious about modeling for shibari photography but I'm pretty new to rope. Do photographers usually work with beginners or do you need to be experienced?

It varies, but for this project I'm looking for people with some experience. Shibari sessions can be physically demanding and you need to know your body's limits. That said, if you're interested in learning, there are workshops around Chicago that are great starting points.

I've modeled for rope bondage shoots before and have about 3 years experience. What's the time commitment you're looking at? And are these TFP or paid?

I'm thinking paid shoots, probably 2-3 hours each depending on complexity. Message me privately and we can discuss rates and schedule.

On bondage: how did you start?

Just wanted to say it's refreshing to see someone approaching BDSM photography with this much thought about consent and safety. Too many people jump in without understanding the responsibility involved.

Thanks, I appreciate that. It's definitely something I take seriously.

In BDSM terms, how do you negotiate boundaries?

Are you only looking for models or also riggers? I tie but don't model myself. Could bring models I work with regularly if you need a rope artist for the shoots.

Open to both actually. If you have people you work with regularly in bondage contexts that would be ideal since trust is already established. DM me with your portfolio if you're interested.
