Starting thread: How to find first bondage photoshoot

I'm interested in doing my first bondage photoshoot but feeling a bit lost about where to begin looking for a photographer. For anyone who's done this, how did you find someone trustworthy? What should I be asking during initial conversations? I want to make sure I'm working with someone who takes safety seriously and has actual experience with rope work. Should I be requesting references from other models? What about discussing limits and comfort levels beforehand? I'd also love to hear about how you prepared yourself mentally for that first session. Any advice from those who've already navigated this would be incredibly helpful.

First thing is definitely check their portfolio. Anyone serious about bondage photography will have examples of their work. Look for proper rope technique, not just aesthetic shots. Safety scissors should always be visible and nearby in session photos. Also ask about their experience with shibari specifically if that's what you want.

References are absolutely essential. I always provide contact info for previous models when someone asks. If a photographer hesitates or refuses, that's a red flag. Also discuss your hard limits before booking anything. A good BDSM photographer will have a detailed consent checklist.

How do you usually find these photographers in the first place? Like where do people even advertise this kind of work?

That's part of what I'm trying to figure out too. I've seen some portfolios online but not sure how to vet them properly.

Local rope events and workshops are your best bet honestly. You get to see people's actual bondage skills in person and meet photographers who are part of the community. Way better than cold messaging someone online.

Also want to add that you should never feel pressured into anything during a shoot. Bondage work requires constant communication. If someone rushes you or dismisses your concerns, walk away. DM me if you want some specific questions to ask photographers.

I did my first shibari shoot last year. My biggest advice is bring a trusted friend who can wait nearby or even be in the room if the photographer allows it. Mine was totally cool with it and it made me feel so much safer.

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. The idea of going to rope events first makes a lot of sense.

Make sure you discuss the usage rights for photos too. Where will they be posted? Can you veto specific shots? This stuff matters especially with BDSM content.

As a photographer who does bondage work, I always do a clothed meet and greet first. No charge, just coffee and conversation. We go over the entire shoot plan, rope positions, safety signals, everything. If someone won't do this, skip them.

Question about preparation - should I practice being in rope before the actual photoshoot? I've never done any bondage stuff before.

Yes definitely try some basic rope work first if you can. Even just wearing rope for 20-30 minutes will give you an idea of how your body responds. Some people get tingling or numbness faster than others. Better to know beforehand.

I run beginner shibari workshops twice a month. Learning the basics first will make your shoot way more comfortable and the photographer will appreciate working with someone who understands rope safety. Message me privately if you want details.
