Starting thread: How much should new bondage model charge

I'm starting out as a bondage model and need advice on setting rates for rope photography sessions. I know I'm still building experience and my portfolio, so I don't want to overcharge, but I also want to value my time appropriately. What factors should I consider when deciding what to charge? Does the type of rope work matter, like whether it's shibari or western style bondage? Should I price differently for photo shoots versus video work? And how much does session length usually play into pricing? If any experienced models or photographers can share insight on what's typical or what considerations matter most, I'd really appreciate the guidance.

When you're starting out in bondage modeling, honestly your experience level matters most. I'd suggest lower rates at first to build your portfolio - maybe even some TFP work with established riggers. Shibari does typically command higher rates than basic rope bondage because the technical skill is more complex. Video usually pays more than stills. Consider travel time, prep, and the complexity of ties. Suspension work should cost more than floor work. DM me if you want more specific numbers.

Also consider the photographer or rigger's reputation. Are they established in the BDSM community? Will the images help your portfolio? I started with lower rates for people who could provide quality shots and references. Safety matters too - never compromise on that regardless of price.

Thanks for the responses! That's helpful. How much difference should there be between basic rope work and suspension? And do most bondage models charge hourly or per session?

Suspension bondage definitely requires premium pricing because the risk and skill level are higher. Most models I've worked with do hourly for longer shoots, flat rate for shorter sessions. Start conservative with your rates, you can always raise them as you gain experience and references.

Following this thread. I'm also new to rope modeling and trying to figure out fair rates. Is it common to charge differently for private versus commercial work?

Yes, commercial work for publication should be significantly higher than private sessions. Also factor in whether images will be shared publicly or kept private. Some bondage models charge extra for face-showing work. Message me privately if you want to discuss specifics for your situation.
