Subscription vs custom content

Starting thread: Subscription vs custom content

I've been exploring different ways to share shibari and bondage content, and I'm torn between subscription models versus custom work. For those of you creating rope tutorials, scene documentation, or BDSM educational material, which approach has worked better for you? I'm particularly interested in how each affects your creative process, time management, and ability to maintain consistent quality. Do subscriptions give you more freedom to plan content around your schedule, or does custom work feel more rewarding because it's tailored to specific interests? I'd also love to hear about pricing challenges and how you handle client expectations in each model. What's been your experience balancing these different approaches?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.

I do both. Subscriptions are great for consistent income and let me plan my rope content calendar in advance. I typically shoot basic to intermediate shibari ties and safety tutorials on a schedule. Custom work is where I make more per piece though, especially for specific bondage scenarios or advanced techniques people want to learn. The downside is customs can be demanding - people have very specific visions and sometimes unrealistic expectations about complexity vs timeline. My advice is start with subscriptions to build your base, then add customs selectively. DM me if you want to talk specifics about pricing structures.

How do you handle it when someone wants a custom tutorial for something really niche in BDSM? Like do you ever turn down requests that are outside your comfort zone or expertise with rope work?

Yeah absolutely. I stick to what I know well and what I can demonstrate safely. If someone wants something I haven't practiced extensively or that involves bondage techniques I'm not confident teaching, I refer them to other riggers or decline. Better to maintain quality and safety than chase every dollar. There's plenty of demand for solid fundamentals in shibari anyway.

I've found subscriptions work best for building a community around rope and BDSM education. People appreciate the regular content drops and you can really develop teaching progressions over time. Custom content can be exhausting honestly, especially the back and forth communication. That said, I do offer it as an add-on for subscribers who want personalized bondage instruction or specific tie demonstrations. Message me privately if you want to compare notes on platform options.
