Best platforms for rope models

Starting thread: Best platforms for rope models

I've been modeling for rope bondage sessions and shibari photography for a while now, and I'm looking for recommendations on where to find serious riggers and photographers. There are so many platforms out there that it's hard to know which ones are worth my time. What communities or sites have you found most helpful? I'm particularly interested in spaces that take safety seriously, have some kind of vetting system, and attract people looking for real collaborative work rather than just window shopping. Also curious if there are any warning signs I should be aware of when checking out new platforms.

I've had good experiences with local rope communities that organize regular jams and workshops. The in-person aspect makes vetting much easier. For online, look for platforms where people have portfolios, references, and active participation in the BDSM community. Red flags include anyone who rushes you, won't provide references, or seems more interested in the photos than your safety and comfort during the bondage session.

Definitely recommend starting with platforms that have a strong moderation team and require profile verification. I've found that communities focused specifically on shibari and rope bondage tend to be more professional than general adult platforms. Also, always do a video call before meeting anyone in person. You can learn a lot about someone's approach to rope work and safety protocols just by talking to them.

What about local dungeons or studios? I've gotten most of my rope modeling work through venues that host regular events. The advantage is that people are already vetted by the space, and there's usually a community reputation system in place.

Thanks for the input so far. I'm definitely active in my local scene, but I'm traveling more now and want to connect with riggers in other cities. The video call suggestion is smart - I hadn't thought of that as a screening tool.

For traveling rope models, there are some BDSM networking communities that are city-specific. Each major city usually has its own rope scene with different vibes. When I travel, I always reach out to local rope groups a few weeks ahead. Most established shibari communities have online presence and welcome visiting models who can provide references.

Whatever platform you use, make sure you're clear about your boundaries upfront. I model for rope bondage professionally and I always have a detailed negotiation before any session. Document everything - the style of rope work, duration, whether it's for photography or practice, suspension vs floor work, etc. Good riggers will appreciate your thoroughness.

I'm pretty new to rope modeling and this thread is really helpful. How do you even start building references when you're just beginning?

Start with supervised sessions at rope jams or workshops. Many experienced riggers are happy to work with newer models in those settings. You can build your portfolio and get references from people who've seen your work. DM me if you want more specific advice about getting started.

That's solid advice for beginners. I'd add that taking rope bondage classes yourself, even as a model, shows you're serious and understand the technical side. It helps you communicate better with riggers too.

I've been rigging for about 8 years now and I always check if a model has worked with people I know in the community. The BDSM scene is pretty interconnected, so reputation matters on both sides. If you're looking to expand your network, message me privately and I can connect you with some reputable folks in different cities.

Plus one to everything said here. Also be wary of anyone who calls themselves a rigger but can't talk about safety protocols or doesn't know basic rope terminology. Real shibari practitioners take this stuff seriously.

Consider joining some of the international rope conventions or intensives. They're great for networking and you'll meet both riggers and other models. The bondage photography community at these events is usually very professional and focused on artistic collaboration rather than just collecting images.

Got it, thanks all

In BDSM terms, how do you negotiate boundaries?
